Training Program in North Sumatra

Yayasan Saluran Unggul Sesama has been helping the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) centers of the Protestant Church of Simalungun based in the province of North Sumatera in the form of donations and specialized training to the CBR volunteers. The aim of the centers are capacity and character building of special needs children in the community — so that they can live more independently.

To date, our organization have provided basic classroom materials such as whiteboards, stationery, and textbook needs. In addition, specific sensory items that are part of the training curriculum have also been provided, such as: child friendly sand and play-dough (for touch), paint and colored papers (for sight), pegs and marbles (for hand-eye coordination).

While in terms of training, Yayasan Saluran Unggul Sesama has provided training sessions on:

#1 Challenging the myths around individuals with special needs.

#2 Recognizing and understanding individuals with special needs.

#3 Sensory activities to aid the children’s’ motoric skills
